Blue Vibrations brings together artists whose works pulse with rhythm and energy. Through layered surfaces, flowing forms, and luminous color, these pieces evoke a sense of movement that feels both organic and other-worldly. They suggest energy fields, shifting light, and unseen forces, inviting viewers into an experience that borders on the spiritual.
The color blue has long carried symbolic and spiritual resonance. In ancient Egypt, lapis lazuli symbolized truth and protection, while in the Renaissance, ultramarine—ground from lapis—was often used for the Virgin Mary’s robes as a sign of purity and the divine. In Hindu philosophy, blue is linked to deities such as Krishna and Shiva, embodying compassion and transcendence. The throat chakra (Vishuddha) associates blue with communication and truth, and in Buddhism it signifies wisdom and healing.
Scientifically, blue vibrates at a higher frequency (600–670 THz) than warmer hues, a paradox reflecting its dual nature as calming yet energizing. As the color of sea and sky, blue resonates universally, evoking openness, serenity, and connection—both grounding and transcendent across cultures and time.
Co-Curator’s statement:
While running ODETTA Gallery in Bushwick, NYC, I kept a studio behind the exhibition space. Visiting artists often wandered back to find me absorbed in a series I call Seeking the Sound of Cobalt Blue. Surrounded by paintings awash in blue—spilling across the walls and even onto the floor—they would pause and linger, telling me that the color made them feel uplifted, alert, and alive. That experience was the impetus for this exhibition.
